Peace Pole Planting and World Peace Flag Ceremony ~ Buenos Aires, Argentina

Monday, December 23rd, 2013

December 21, 2013

A Peace Pole was planted in South Central Center in Buenos Aires City in Argentina.  A group of dedicated peace workers and friends came together to dedicate the Peace Pole which was handcrafted locally out of wood.  To bless the Peace Pole a World Peace Flag Ceremony was presented with flags cards representing every world nation. Participants walked around in a circle carrying the flags of the world and placed them in a circle mandala after prayers for peace were sent to each one of them.  As a finale, everyone held hands around the flag mandala representing the global family to send blessings to humanity.

During Fall 2013 people from Northwest Connecticut, Southwest Massachusetts and adjoining New York State have attended three workshops in both physical and verbal nonviolence at The World Peace  Sanctuary in Wassaic, NY. These workshops jointly were sponsored by Urban Visions (Ancramdale, NY) and the Watershed Center (Millerton, NY), for the Training of Facilitators of the Alternatives to Violence Project (“AVP”).

Our Tri-corner area for the first time have a cadre of local Facilitators to provide AVP workshops in our communities. AVP has provided verbal nonviolence training world-wide since it began in Dutchess County, NY in 1975.

Urban Visions’ physical nonviolence training, “I-Key Workshops,” emphasizes how to use the body to communicate well and resolve conflict. The workshops grew out of AVP and the nonviolent martial art, “Aikido,” in 1985, then became a basis for Peace Dojos which  provide ongoing nonviolence training that combines word and movement.

Peace Pole – Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, England

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013

We received this email from Ben in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, England.

I love the message of peace and while doing a meditation for Syria earlier this year I was re-inspired. I lit a candle and remembered about the “World Peace Flame”; a friend of mine called Linda Stickler had given me one in 2007.  I then built a “Peace Corner” in my house.

One thing led to another and I thought a great plan would be to make my front door porch post into a “Peace Pole” and have a “World Peace Flame” in a lantern above it.

The first attempt I did was print out “May Peace Prevail On Earth” in English, Arabic, Persian and Hebrew on strips of printer paper which was “water resistant”. I set the “Peace Pole” up on “Global Oneness Day” on October 24th 2013. That night it rained and the inks ran!

I contacted Jessica Shackleton at the Allanton World Peace Sanctuary and she was able to send me peace plaques in English, Italian, French and Japanese.

I first saw a “Peace Pole” in 1993 in Orlyonok on the Black Sea coast when I was on a Russian exchange with a Youth Group called “Woodcraft Folk” (a youth group in the UK who’s slogan is “Span The World With Friendship”).

I hope to do a mini flag ceremony at some point!
