Solo exhibition by New York based artist Peter Sutherland, comprised of film, photography and sculpture and the Peace Pole Project in London, ENGLAND

Thursday, December 31st, 2015

6 – 9 pm, Thursday, November 19, 2015

Peter Sutherland (b.1976 Ann Arbor, MI, USA) lives and works in New York. His self titled solo exhibition at Kinman addresses themes and concepts that concern niche urban subcultures, contextualized paradoxically with footage and imagery that captures the vastness and expanse of the American wilderness.

Sutherland’s film ‘Stray Light’ makes references to numerous social and humanitarian issues, amongst themes concerning youth culture.

A collision of footage collected from around the world over the past decade, the viewer is immersed within a collage of hypnotic and illusionary moving imagery, confronted with utilitarian and ephemeral material.

Other works within the exhibition include functional concrete / wooden street benches, which integrate shots of the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands in Utah, a series of photo collages depicting Black Cats Fire Crackers and a commissioned Peace Pole from the Peace Pole Project (

Peace Pole Dedication for the Gary Grimshaw Peace Pole-Detroit, Michigan-USA

Wednesday, December 30th, 2015

Submitted: October-2015

Hello World Peace Prayer Society,

Thank you for information as to how to submit my photos of a dedication ceremony for registration. When I purchased the Peace Pole there was a sheet for registration but many years went by before an official dedication.

The Peace Pole was dedicated to Gary Grimshaw, artist (1946 – 2014) on December 24, 2014 in Detroit Michigan in the Woodbridge Neighborhood near Midtown. It is located at the corner of Merrick and Commonwealth Streets in front of a residential apartment building.

Thank you for this opportunity to remember my husband with an ideal he thought highly of.

Lindsey Barnhart’s Project, Girl Scout Gold Award and Peace Pole Dedication Ceremony, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-USA

November 22, 2015

My dedication Ceremony for my Peace Pole was a major component of my larger project, a peace garden at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library.

My dedication Ceremony was held on November 22, 2015. It was the official opening of the garden space I created for my  Girl Scout Gold Award. The garden space is located off the library’s parking lot just above the library’s courtyard. I am so proud to have been able  to plant my Peace Pole at the public library. I spoke to the audience about the garden, about planting peace and also letting peace prevail on earth.

This is actually the Peace Pole which was originally standing outside the house of Eileen Caddy. It fell over because of the wood having rotted in the ground. It has been refurbished and now shines its light close to the Findhorn Dunes.

That is actually the house where I’m presently living.

Peace Pole as birthday gift and celebration!  Tucson, Arizona, USA

October 17, 2015

We made this Peace Pole as a gift to ourselves to commemorate Debbie’s 75th Birthday celebration.

In 1974, as a member of Foothills Unitarian Church in Fort Collins, CO, Debbie first learned about Peace Poles from her first UU minister/Pacifist, Walter Royal Jones, and his wife, Eliza, who had a very elaborate Peace Pole in the front yard of their home.

UN Flag Dedicated with Peace Prayers-May Peace Prevail On Earth! Middletown, CT-USA

October 23, 2015

Reverend Julia Burkey

Rev. Julia Burkey asked the WPPS Representative to the United Nations, Rev. Deborah Moldow, to take part in a special evening at the First Church of Christ in  Middletown, CT on October 23rd.

The occasion was twofold: a magnificent concert by the Paul Winter Consort and the dedication of a United Nations flag on the eve of the UN’s 70th anniversary.

Paul Winter’s presence was perfect. Not only is he a cherished member of the World Peace Prayer Society’s Founding Advisory Board, but he was also invited by WPPS to play his uplifting music for an interfaith ceremony during the first event ever celebrating World Interfaith Harmony Week in the UN General Assembly hall in 2012.

After the first half of the concert, Rev. Burkey welcomed Deborah to the stage along with Dr. Sergei Kambalov, a retired UN staff member who had been instrumental in developing the UN Global Compact for businesses, as well as serving as ECOSOC liaison to the community of religious NGOs. Dr. Kambalov outlined some of the achievements of the UN, as well as some of its challenges. Deborah then spoke about the presence of the World Peace Prayer Society among the NGO community at the UN. She said, “the UN flag belonged in a church as a symbol of international unity, suggesting that when Jesus asked us to love our neighbors as ourselves, he didn’t mean to leave anyone out.”

Deborah asked those gathered to take a moment of silence, putting their prayers into the flag so they would radiate out to all the nations united. Then everyone said three times together, “May Peace Prevail on Earth!”

Two Peace Poles erected to express our world’s vision, during these disturbing times, Boulder, Colorado-USA

Thursday, Nov 12, 2015

I feel privileged to let you know that I have secured in the ground the two Peace Poles I purchased from The World Peace Sanctuary a few weeks ago.  On Thursday, Nov 12, 2015 ( the day before the attack on Paris), we were blessed to set the two Peace Poles at my office, 2346 Broadway Boulder CO 80304.

A wonderful crew from my landscaper dug the hole and set the Peace Poles in cement. Several health/healing practitioners were present and we shared a few words of acknowledgement and intention for the ceremony.

Thank you for allowing us to express our world’s vision, during these disturbing times.

I feel blessed.

With appreciation and gratitude,
