May Peace Prevail on Earth! My name is Patricia Ann Talley Tucker. My mission, as the Latin American Coordinator for the Detroit West District Peace Center in Southfield, Michigan, is to spread the word of peace and unity throughout the Hispanic world, starting with my own community of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico –the only tourist destination in Mexico with a Peace Pole Monument poclaiming this prayer. Our Peace Pole Monument, which was construted this past March, is made of special salmon-colored stone, has the Peace Prayer engraved on its four sides in Nauthal (native Indian lanuage), Spanish, French and English representing the diversity and unity of our community.

May, 2010

Dear Friends,
Escuela Lomas Altas is an International Baccalaureate primary school in Mexico City. The school curriculum is based on the Primary Years Program of the IB Program. At the end of the school year, the 6th grade students present a final exhibition of the PYP Program. The exhibition is based on a theme that the students choose regarding any subject that affects the world and humankind. They have to inquire, analyze and present it to the entire school community at the end of May. It is a big celebration.

This year’s 6th grade exhibition was based on “Humankind creates tools and strategies to make peaceful coexistence possible in a diverse society.” The 6th grade was divided in groups and the head teachers were responsible for guiding and planning the Exhibition. One of the 6th grade groups this year investigated on Organizations that Promote Peace Around the World, that had to do with the central idea. During their inquiry on this subject, the students found out about the Peace Poles Project which led them to make their own Peace Pole and present it on the day of the exhibition.

It was a great success!! All of the school community, parents, students and teachers, wrote phrases on it regarding Peace in the World.

We are sending the picture of the Escuela Lomas Altas Peace Pole.

August 5th, 2010

A moment of silence was observed throughout Japan, as the Peace Bell rang at precisely 8:15 a.m. This was the time when the atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima.

The live broadcast also featured the World Peace Prayer and Flag Ceremony presented by WPPS members in the Hiroshima Peace Park. Dedicated members of WPPS have been organizing the World Peace and Flag Ceremony for the past 18 years in front of the Peace Dome, which is the only surviving structure after the bombing.

For the first time in its 65 year history, the United States Embassy representative in Tokyo and United Nations Secretary General attended the memorial service. Also in attendance were Japanese government officials, foreign diplomats and families of the survivors.

It is a historical year for the people of Hiroshima and the world at large.

The BBC online news agency featured photographs from the Hiroshima Day observance and to our great joy we discovered a man wearing a May Peace Prevail On Earth T-Shirt. Seen here in this photograph!
