Polo de Paz Volcán Lanín , Junin de los Andes, ARGENTINA AND CHILE

May-2010

In the past there was great conflict between the two countries’ native people, the Mapuches.
This Peace Pole was planted at the foot of Volcán Lanín in Junin de los Andes, on the border of Chile and Argentina.
The Peace Pole was re-planted in May-2010; it had fallen from a snow storm.

Lanín is an ice-clad, cone-shaped stratovolcano on the border of Argentina and Chile. It forms part of two national parks: Lanín in Argentina and Villarrica in Chile. Although the date of its last eruption is not known, it is estimated to have occurred within the last 10,000 years.
