January 25th, 2009

The 250th Anniversary of Robert Burns birth was on 25th January 2009. He is Scotland’s National Bard and wrote the numerous songs including the world famous Auld Lang Syne. He lived in Dumfries and also at Ellisland Farm, which is only two miles from Allanton Sanctuary.

A big celebration was held in Dumfries to mark the occasion and to begin “2009 The Year of Scotland’s Homecoming.”  All the people around the world who have ancestral roots in Scotland are invited to come home to visit Scotland this year!!!!

A big lantern parade was organised with over 17,000 people. Allanton Sanctuary staff and volunteers made a big world lantern 1.5 meters in diameter.  It was made from willow and tissue paper.   It had May Peace Prevail On Earth written across one side and a quote from Robert Burns on the other side. It took four people to carry it but it was great fun to be part of the parade.

February 8th 2009

It had snowed overnight, so the Allanton Sanctuary staff walked carefully from the car, over the snowy path, with the flags in the stands! We made our way to the ballroom in Cluny Hill College, which is part of the Findhorn Foundation, for a World Peace Flag Ceremony, which was organised by Katharina Brocke. It was held after a morning of Taize singing in the same beautiful room. It was a very focused Ceremony and many of the participants were close to tears as the country flags were presented in continental order. Afterwards we held hands and danced together!

We also went to acknowledge the Peace Pole in the garden that looked radiant in the snow.

May Peace be in Scotland.  May Peace Prevail On Earth.

February 19, 2008

A World Peace Flag Ceremony held in the Peace Room at Allanton Sanctuary in Dumfries, Scotland to support the 2009 Festival of Middle Eastern Spirituality and Peace which is being held from February 28th to March 15th in Edinburgh. This is the fourth year that we have supported this event by having a Flag Ceremony and this year was the most successful. Allanton Sanctuary linked up with Dumfries Interfaith and Dumfries and Galloway Multicultural Association to help organise the programme. There were 50 people present including children. We started with live music, a Muslim call to prayer, a Nasrudin Story and then the World Peace Flag Ceremony in which everyone took part. Afterwards, there was a sharing of the common values in religion and a candlelit walk to the labyrinth followed by the most delicious vegetarian Middle Eastern feast. Everyone really enjoyed themselves.

May Peace be in the Middle East. May Peace Prevail On Earth.
