Peace Pole Library officially launched on November 14th, 2016-USA

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

The Peace Pole Project and Little Free Library merged on this Project in a collaborative expansion of the peace prayer ideals.

The Little Free Library organization in collaboration with The Peace Pole Project of The World Peace Prayer Society have developed a partnership that serves a new library concept.

The Peace Pole Library is a monument that serves both the sharing of books and the sharing of peace. The tower like structure works as a Little Free Library with three shelves for neighbors to share books with neighbors.

The Peace Pole Library also shares the universal peace message, “May Peace Prevail On Earth” in 83 languages.

On November 14th, the Little Free Library was presented on the “View”, a popular ABC Daytime morning show. The Little Free Library was chosen as “Top” of Whoopi Goldberg’s list of “Favorite Things.”

Afterwards, Todd Bol, Founder of Little Free Library gifted Whoopi Goldberg with The Peace Pole Library in celebration of her 60th Birthday.

Pre Launch of the Peace Pole Library… as September 15th marks the civil rights anniversary of the Birmingham church bombing that killed the 4 schoolgirls in 1963. The Little Free Library founder,Todd Bol, spoke in Birmingham and gave away 4 Peace Pole Libraries as a tribute to these 4 girls and as “prayer for peace,” May Peace Prevail On Earth.

Todd gave one Peace Pole Library to other organizations in each city of Birmingham, Montgomery, Selma and Atlanta.

Todd then proceeded to Washington, D.C. to attend the Library of Congress National Book Festival, where 2 two more Peace Pole Libraries were given away as part of that visit.

Students take themes from Peace Education to design Peace Poles-Hudson Middle School, Hudson, Ohio-USA

Tuesday, March 1st, 2016

Friday, May 22, 2015

We had a Peace Pole dedication ceremony at Hudson Middle School. The event took place in the Middle School courtyard. The 30 minute student-led program was televised throughout the school for all to view.

Ohio State Representative Kristina Roegner, Hudson City Councilmen At-Large William Wooldredge, district administrators, teachers, parents, and students celebrated this monumental moment.

We learned about the Peace Pole Project during our research to teach a unit about Peace Education, to prepare for International Day of Peace, and to prepare our own Peace Poles. Below is our Press Release about the inspiration for The HMS Peace Project.

The inspiration for the HMS Peace Project began several years back when a group of HMS teachers attended a Global Institute at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. Since that time, Terry Stump, Grade 8 Art Tech Teacher, Richard Kiovsky, Grade 8-12 German Teacher, and Holly Mesmer, Grade 8 Spanish Teacher, procured funds to bring this project to fruition. April 2014, the Hudson Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) granted the  necessary funds to begin the HMS Peace Project. Throughout the 2014-2015 academic year, Grade 8 Art Tech and Grade 8 World Language students were involved in a four part process: Part I-Peace Education, Part II-Design, Part III, Implementation, and Part IV-Dedication.

The project began with a supplemental unit, Peace Education, to build awareness about human rights, the students’ role as ambassadors of peace, and how action is essential to peace keeping. Part II-Design. Students took themes from Peace Education to design the Peace Poles. Part III-Implementation. Students collaborated to create two-dimensional visual thematic designs that conveyed peaceful permanent messages once transferred to three dimensional Peace Poles. Part IV-Dedication. On May 22, 2015, students dedicated their Peace Poles as visual silent reminders for peace to prevail on earth as well as daily in our Hudson Middle School community.

Respectfully Submitted by:
Terry Williams Stump, Grade 8 Art Teacher & Holly Mesmer, Grade 8 Spanish Teacher

A twelve language Peace Pole is part of the art project on the Blomberg Mountain in Southwest of Bad Tölz , GERMANY

Wednesday, October 28th, 2015

July 5, 2015

The artist Marco Paulo builds together with refugees a “Bridge of Humanity” on the Blomberg Mountain.  A twelve language Peace Pole was part of the art wall path project  entitled, “Change of Mind.”

A bridge normally spans over water or valleys.  But a bridge on a mountain?

Artist, Marco Paulo has called his project “The Bridge of Humanity” which opened on July 5th, in addition to the mountain rescue hut to be part of the art trail, entitled,  “Change of Heart.”

For thirty years, Marco Paulo has expressed issues of war and Environmental Degradation  in his paintings, sculptures, installations, performance art, land art and in his books.

February-2015, the “Peace Pole” was also exhibited at the “TölzKunst 1” on the banks of the Isar, in the St. Michael’s Church in Munich, Germany.

This three-meter-high ( nearly 10 feet tall ) wooden Peace Pole bears the universal peace message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in twelve languages.

Paulo is convinced that art can make a contribution to understanding and peaceful coexistence.  Paulo is a craftsman with four championship titles as a plasterer, painter, and interior decorator.

Art class in Japanese High school / Peace Pals International Art Contest

Friday, June 20th, 2014

Warm greetings to the Peace Makers around the world from Japan,

My wife and I are running Peace education programs “Earth Kids Space” in two locations in Iwate Prefecture, in north-eastern Japan. “Earth Kids Space” programs are promoted by the Goi Peace Foundation in Oshu city and Ichinoseki city

In 2011 Earth Kids of  Iwate was asked to participate in the Peace Pals Art Exhibition and Awards by the WPPS Japan office.

The theme of the contest was very timely for Earth Kids in Iwate, since we were hit by the Great Eastern Japan Earth Quake and Tsunami and we wanted to respond to the kind messages from the various countries to Japan.  We are very happy that some of our children were chosen each year as winners or finalists since then.  Earth Kids children will participate in the contest this year again.

I have been giving classes as an art lecturer at Senmaya high school since this April when the Japanese new school year started. The upper age limit was 16, so it was my first idea that I will give my 10th grade students a chance.  Indeed school curriculum schedule is tight, so I decided to let my students who finished their task early to work on the contest.

The students seemed to be very new to paint such a theme given by the contest, so they struggled finding an idea for their painting, but still they enjoyed.  I teach my students in my class that “True Art contains the consciousness of positively creating peace.”  The students experienced finding such a consciousness within themselves through this art production for the contest.

Poem entitled: The Peace Pole–by Andrew Benson-SIERRA LEONE

Anywhere you find this Peace Pole,
War shall never lend its toll,
For this might be a rare story ever told
By peace lovers of old.
We must all strive to plant Peace Poles
In every corner of the globe,
For war will never be brave or bold
To confront this powerful Peace Pole.
Any where you erect this Peace Pole,
War shall never lend its toll
For war shall never be brave or bold
In the aura and serenity of this mighty Peace Pole
Like prayers that ward off the devil
Whenever it is said in the midst of evil,
War shall never be brave or bold
To challenge this magnificent Peace Pole.
And every seed of peace we sow in the globe,
Will surely grow with the Peace Pole.
