September-2014

Since last September, seventh- and eighth-graders in the school’s art class and National Art Honor Society have been painting positive and colorful messages, symbols and animals on  six Peace Poles. Sunday was the International Day of Peace, so students installed the project when they returned to school Tuesday.

Art teacher Elizabeth Cosby said students spent about 175 hours working on the project before and after school, on the weekends and sometimes during class.

“It’s kind of emotional, because I got a chance to see their process, see how much they grew through the process of creating, and now I have several that are at the high school level who participated,” Cosby said. “To see them come back today and be a part of this continues to show how much it still means to them.”

Cosby said some of her students compete in an international peace poster competition, and usually one student wins. But she wanted her students to participate in something together, and the Peace Poles were an ideal project!

I belong to Pakistan and working with children since many years. Peace and interfaith Harmony were the main theme of our work. We are interacting with children in the field of Art for Peace (Painting, cultural songs, Cultural dances, cultural festivals, theater)

I was trying to conduct this art activity in many schools or design it in a art exhibition for peace especially for the children of deprived and excluded groups but unfortunately I did not got good response from schools because they are having first term exams and summer vacations were started so it was blank for me.

With the help of our women volunteers, Lok Vehar Organized this activity. Children were briefed about  them and they painted. At the end they told me very interesting stories about their paintings what they feel about it what they want to describe in their painting.   They don’t have clear idea of UNO but for them if we have peace in this world every were we will have flowers, butterflies, peaceful homes, sharing this is peaceful world for them.

I feel we are sewing peace seeds and there is high hope someday they will grow and become huge trees.

Art class in Japanese High school / Peace Pals International Art Contest

Friday, June 20th, 2014

Warm greetings to the Peace Makers around the world from Japan,

My wife and I are running Peace education programs “Earth Kids Space” in two locations in Iwate Prefecture, in north-eastern Japan. “Earth Kids Space” programs are promoted by the Goi Peace Foundation in Oshu city and Ichinoseki city

In 2011 Earth Kids of  Iwate was asked to participate in the Peace Pals Art Exhibition and Awards by the WPPS Japan office.

The theme of the contest was very timely for Earth Kids in Iwate, since we were hit by the Great Eastern Japan Earth Quake and Tsunami and we wanted to respond to the kind messages from the various countries to Japan.  We are very happy that some of our children were chosen each year as winners or finalists since then.  Earth Kids children will participate in the contest this year again.

I have been giving classes as an art lecturer at Senmaya high school since this April when the Japanese new school year started. The upper age limit was 16, so it was my first idea that I will give my 10th grade students a chance.  Indeed school curriculum schedule is tight, so I decided to let my students who finished their task early to work on the contest.

The students seemed to be very new to paint such a theme given by the contest, so they struggled finding an idea for their painting, but still they enjoyed.  I teach my students in my class that “True Art contains the consciousness of positively creating peace.”  The students experienced finding such a consciousness within themselves through this art production for the contest.

Children at the Child Protection Agency in Gifhorn, Germany paint for Peace Pals International – May Peace Prevail On Earth

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014

May – 2014

Kristina Bork, artist and art teacher at The German Children Protection Association in Gifhorn, Germany once again got the children involved in this years (2014) Peace Pals Art Exhibition and Awards contest.

german_children_protection_agency_germany

The Association not only protects children, but offers various workshops to enrich their lives.  The children have such a full curriculum with their studies at home and at school.  They do not paint simply for competition, but for a love of peace.  It takes a dedicated teacher or youth coordinator to make this possible.

We thank Kristina Bork for her commitment to the children and for spreading the universal message of peace, “May Peace Prevail On Earth,” and to the children of Gifhorn, Germany — Thank you for your beautiful art.

We at Peace Pals International are looking forward to seeing the children’s artwork this year.

Peace Pole or IDP at “Imagine School at Cortez Park, Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Monday, October 7th, 2013

September 20, 2013

Hello Ann Marie,

I hope this finds you doing well.

I wanted to send you some pictures of our Peace Pole planting and give you background on our school.

DSC01072

Imagine School at Cortez Park is a charter school in Phoenix Arizona that is unique in that although we are located in the South West, our greatest population of students are Burmese. The recent refugees from Burma have found a new home in Phoenix  Arizona and our school has been lucky to have been chosen to help the children make a smooth transition to life in the U.S. Our school is more than a multicultural learning institution, it is a “beacon of peace and hope” for these parents and children and we feel blessed to have them in our fold.

On September 20, 2013, in honor of IDP, our school gathered around to plant our Peace Pole and to remind our parents and students that we are committed  to our shared values:  Justice, Integrity and Fun!

DSC01082

We believe that only through these shared values and through our dedication to our 6 measures of excellence can we help all children reach their full potential, no exceptions.

Our Peace Pole bears the Peace Message in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Burmese ,Arabic, Albanian and Karen. These are the voices of our students and we feel so proud to have become part of this great organization.

We look forward to continuing to celebrate with you on this special day and bring peace to our children, neighborhood and community.

Sincerely yours,

Mr. Gregory R. van Goidtsnoven M.Ed.

Peace Pole at Charles Ellis Montessori Academy-Savannah, Georgia-USA

Tuesday, July 9th, 2013

Hello Ann Marie,

We had a dedication ceremony for our new Peace Pole at our school in Savannah, Georgia.   A few notes about our school:  We are a public Montessori school named ‘Charles Ellis Montessori Academy’, grades pre-K – 8th, with a socio-economically diverse student body.

One part of our ceremony had 8th graders (graduating this year) passing on white paper peace roses that they made to our new pre-K students.   It was heart-warming to see the oldest and the youngest interact this way.   The remainder of the ceremony had each grade level performing a cultural activity/performance based on the language that their grade chose to be represented on the Peace Pole. (we have the Peace Message in 8 languages on the Peace Pole).

Tuesday, July 9th, 2013

May 9th, 2013

On a bright sunny morning day in the town of Colusa, California,  a Peace Pole was dedicated at Burchfield Primary School. The entire student body (400 students) assembled on the school campus lawn to take part in the program which started with the Presentation of Colors.  The students sang a few songs dedicated to peace followed by a welcome message by the Principal.  Captain Renee Marie, Peace Representative of WPPS, spoke next about the mission of peace we all carry out into the world and introduced Fumi Johns Stewart, Executive Director of WPPS who made a short remark to the students.

Gloria Lopez who lives in the neighboring town of Williams has made it her mission to plant Peace Poles since the death of her son who was deployed in Afghanistan. To date she has been instrumental in planting 6 Peace Poles and is ready to add 2 more to the list this summer.  Gloria invited, Amy Maldonado, a student at the local Colusa High School to take on the Peace Pole dedication project as her Senior Project.
