Girl Scout Troop sell cookies for Peace! San Marcos, California – USA

May 31st, 2013

On May 31, 2013, Girl Scouts from Troop #4446, San Marcos, CA presented a Peace Pole to their school, Carrillo Elementary.  The Peace Pole was inspired by many hours of research, brainstorming, interviewing and selling lots of Girl Scout cookies.

The troop had been working on their Bronze Award Project, the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can achieve, since October 2012.  They were inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, a leader and humanitarian, to work on a project that would embrace change and make a difference in their school and community.

The Girl Scouts decided on a 8 foot tall Peace Pole as their gift to Carrillo Elementary.  The languages represented on the Peace Pole: English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Chinese, Greek, Hebrew and Persian, were chosen to reflect the cultural background of the Girl Scout troop, their community and the creator of the Peace Pole.  If they had space, they would have chosen all 6,500 languages spoken in the world to be recognized on their Peace Pole.

Girl Scouts May Peace Prevail On Earth

The Girl Scouts hope that their Peace Pole will bring people of all faiths, backgrounds and culture to embrace the universal message of Peace.  They feel that having a Peace Pole at their school will inspire students, parents, staff, visitors and the community to spread the message of peace everywhere they go.  The Girls Scouts of Troop 4446 believe that if we all work together, we can change our community and our world to make it a better place.

Since the dedication ceremony in 2013, Girl Scouts from Troop #4446 have visited the site to plant water wise plants to beautify the Peace Pole.

Thank you.

May Peace Prevail On Earth!
Christina Williams, Girl Scout Leader, Troop #4446
