Peace Pole and WPFC presented at the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions Symposium-Melbourne, Australia

December 3rd to 9th, 2009

 

A Peace Pole was dedicated at the Melbourne Convention Centre on Tuesday, December 8th, commemorating the 2009 Parliament of the World’s Religions with a World Peace Prayer Ceremony for “Reconciliation Among Religions and Peace Among Nations.”

Audrey Kitagawa of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions introduced the United Nations International Year of Reconciliation. Fumi Johns Stewart, Executive Director of The World Peace Prayer Society and Charles Gibbs, Executive Director of the United Religions Initiative, led the World Peace Prayer and Flag Ceremony together, dedicating the Parliament Peace Pole with representatives of different religions who came from all over the world.
Music was provided by Aliza Hava. Blessings of peace were offered by members of the United Religions Initiative including:

The Mission of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions was created to cultivate harmony among the world’s religious and spiritual communities and foster their engagement with the world and its guiding institutions in order to achieve a just, peaceful and sustainable world.

To accomplish this, they invite individuals and communities who are equally invested in attaining this goal.

The vision of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions is of a just, peaceful and sustainable world in which:

Religious and cultural fears and hatreds are replaced with understanding and respect

People everywhere come to know and care for their neighbors

The richness of human and religious diversity is woven into the fabric of communal, civil, societal and global life

The world’s most powerful and influential institutions move beyond narrow self-interest to realize common good

The Earth and all life are cherished, protected, healed and restored

All people commit to living out their highest values and aspirations.
