RH Dana Elementary School Plants Dana Point’s First ‘Peace Pole’ in Learning Center Garden

January 24, 2025

In a ceremony attended by elementary school-aged children, their families, staff, and city officials, RH Dana Elementary School welcomed the Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary Club on Friday, Jan. 24, to officiate the first official planting of a “Peace Pole” in the recently finished school garden.

As a sign of wanting to provide a helping hand around the world and promote peace, Peace Poles were designed by the Rotary Clubs in hopes of doing just that.

“Founded in 1905 by Paul Harris in Chicago, Rotary has become the largest international service club in the world with more than 1.4 million members,” said LJ Cibelli, Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary Club Director at Large. “The goal evolved from providing service on a local level, Chicago, to providing ‘Service Above Self’ around the world to promote peace to foster understanding within and across cultures. Incidentally, more countries are represented at our annual convention than members of the United Nations.”
