Inauguration of the Peace Pole Cantanhede – Portugal

February 26, 2025

Inauguration of the Peace Pole.

In Rotary, February is the month of Peace Building and Conflict Prevention.

On the 26th February 2025, the Rotary Club of Cantanhede promoted, with the support of the Municipality, the installation of a peace pole, with the message ‘May peace prevail in the world’, in eight different languages, in the garden of the Cantanhede Municipal Library. The flag was unveiled at 6.45pm by the Mayor, Dr Helena Teodósio and the President of the Rotary Club of Cantanhede, Prof. Manuela Grazina.

More than 30 people attended the ceremony.

The peace pole is an internationally recognised monument that symbolises humanity’s desire for peace.

As I said, ‘peace is everyone’s responsibility and it starts with our every word and gesture. May we be a reference point for building peace in our community and in the world. This monument is intended to be an inspiring symbol for society’s involvement in building global peace.’ Helena Teodósio praised the work that the Rotary Club of Cantanhede has been doing and emphasised the importance of this symbol of peace, so that we can have a more balanced community, where people feel good.

The seed has been sown to cultivate peace. Each of us has a responsibility to ensure that it germinates and bears fruit. Setting an example in society, especially for young people, is fundamental if we are to ensure peace in the world.

We are thankful to everyone who came along and shared this moment of great significance with us.

Let’s continue together to do more and go further!

Manuela Grazina
