Winnipeg Mennonite School (WMS) plants a Peace Pole at both campuses, Winnipeg, Manitoba-California-USA

WINNIPEG, Manitoba—Following the annual ‘Peace Chapel’ at WMS, both campuses
took the opportunity to dedicate a new Peace Pole, a public declaration of our schools’
commitment to peace.

Winnipeg Mennonite School (WMS) dedicated a Peace Pole at each campus this
morning during our annual ‘Peace Chapel.’ A Peace Pole is an internationally
recognized symbol, saying May Peace Prevail on Earth in different languages.
The Peace Pole is part of a not-for-profit organization within the United Nations.

“Our school has always been committed to peace,” says Director of Community
Relations and Marketing Judson Rempel. “It’s a core part of our Mennonite faith.
Installing this Peace Pole allows us to share that commitment with our community.”
Each campus has a unique combination of languages on its post that reflect each
school’s unique community. Both posts have text in English, French, German, and
Mandarin. Our Bedson Campus also has Cree, Ojibwe, Dakota, and Spanish. It’s
Yoruba, Punjabi, Ukrainian, and Cree at Katherine Friesen.

Our annual Peace Chapel takes place before Remembrance Day. Peace is deeply
rooted in our faith, and we are committed to building peace among our students and
community.

We hope our students will graduate ready to bring peace everywhere they
go. WMS is committed to premier education and teaching the essential values of
peacemaking, discipleship, and stewardship. These are core tenets of the Mennonite
faith, and our school and community are committed to upholding them.
